Short synopsis:

The DLR project Wetter & Fliegen aims at increasing safety and efficiency of air traffic. In cooperation with the German Weather Service DLR will develop Integrated Terminal Weather Systems for the airports Frankfurt and Munich with the components
- wake vortex
- thunderstorm
- winter weather
for the provision of tailored weather information in the terminal manoeuvring area. Further, it will develop ground-based and airborne control, surveillance, and information systems for improved flight performance in wind gusts, wake vortices, and thunderstorms with the components:
- automatic flight control systems
- airborne sensors for the detection of wake vortices and wind gusts
- pilot information systems
